Chiropractic Adjustments and Their Importance to Your Health

Chiropractic Adjustments Help Maintain Your Quality of Life!

I had a patient come up to me the other day. She asked, “So Doc, why are these chiropractic adjustments so important? I know I had pain when I came in, but now I don’t. So why do I need to continue with them?”

I told her, “That’s a normal reaction. People judge their health by the way they feel, and to a certain point, that’s okay. But when you have nerve interference, you don’t necessarily have to have pain. I suggest you follow the recommended program that was tailored for your health, then continue getting check-ups at least once a month. And here’s why.”

According to Neurogenetics at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, the human body has 95 to 100 billion neurons, or nerve cells. That’s a lot of nerve cells. The brain alone has at least 85 billion of these nerve cells, although estimates go as high as 1 trillion. And while humans have about 100 billion nerve cells in their bodies, other mammals—for example, blue whales—boast at least twice that number. The University of Tennessee points out that an elephant’s brain is about three times as big as that of a human . . . and contains about three times as many nerves.

The types of neurons that Natural Results Chiropractic adjustments most benefits. The University of Washington explains that nerves are divided into three groups: sensory neurons, motor neurons, and interneurons. While sensory neurons send information to your central nervous system, motor neurons send information away from your central nervous system. If this sounds kind of like a freeway, well, it sort of is. For example, information picked up from the nose and ears—smells and sounds—travels through your sensory neurons to your brain. Interneurons connect the sensory and motor neurons.

I know that sounds complicated, and it is, and that’s why you want a nervous system that functions well. Because being healthy is more than just feeling good; nerve cells transfer important electrical signals to and from your central nervous system. And that relates to your chiropractic adjustments because we adjust your spine, which affects your central nervous system and these electrical signals for the better.

What should be of particular interest to everyone is that nerve cells are usually not replaced like other cells in the body. That means that the older a human being gets, the fewer neurons he has, although there is some evidence that new neurons can grow in adults. But if you aren’t keeping your appointments for your chiropractic adjustments, you aren’t providing adequate conditions for the growth of new neurons.

So my point today is this. As you age—and we’re all doing it—there’s a chance that you’re losing neurons or nerve cells. Therefore, it’s important that you take care of the ones you have so you can function as normally as possible and have a good quality of life. I don’t know about you, but I know I want to take every opportunity I can to live my life with quality and avoid being confined to a wheelchair or hospital bed. As always, life is a choice, as is health. Make the right choice and get your nervous system checked on a regular basis.

It pays off long term. Call and make your appointment for your chiropractic adjustments now!
